The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed a charge sheet against 6 accused in the Manipur viral video case. Along with this, a report has also been filed before the Special Judge of CBI Court in Guwahati. A video of sexual harassment of two women during the Manipur violence went viral on social media. After the release of this video, outrage spread across the country. After this the Supreme Court intervened in the case and handed over the investigation to CBI.
It is alleged that during the Manipur violence, on May 4, around 900 to 1 thousand people with weapons had entered B Phenom village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. During this, the violent mob set fire to many houses and looted them. Not only this, the angry mob beat up the villagers and also sexually exploited the women. During this, the angry mob stripped two women and paraded them on the streets and two family members of one of them were also killed.
CBI investigation has confirmed that the accused arrested by Manipur Police were involved in this incident. Chargesheet has been filed against all of them. CBI has informed in the charge sheet that the accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including gang rape, murder, outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal conspiracy.
