New Delhi: These days the whole of North India is in the grip of severe cold. The weather pattern has changed from season to season after snowfall in the hilly states and rain in the plains. From Jammu and Kashmir to Rajasthan, people are shivering due to winter. There is a possibility of rain in many states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh.
Isolated light to moderate rain very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand today. Thunderstorms likely to occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Light to moderate rain is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the next 4-5 days.
According to the Meteorological Department (MID), a Western Disturbance will affect North-West Himalayas on January 16 and 17 and another Western Disturbance will affect North-West India from January 18 to 20. There is a Weak Western Disturbance, which is seen as a trough in upper troposphere levels and another trough running from North Interior Karnataka to North Interior Odisha in lower troposphere levels.
In the lower troposphere, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Konkan. Under the influence of the above systems, there is a possibility of rain as well as snowfall in the high altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on Friday.
Amidst severe cold wave conditions in Kashmir, minimum temperatures dropped at most places. Officials said a drop in temperature has been recorded in most areas of the Valley on Friday night.
