The Global Surya Namaskar program was organized by the Ministry of AYUSH during the celebration of the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti and Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi. Surya Namaskar was telecasted 13 times live on DD National from 7 am to 7.30 am. Yoga teachers and gurus from India and abroad also participated in this program. Earlier, 75 lakh people were being said to be involved in this, but more than 10 million people from the country and abroad participated in it.
AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also performed Surya Namaskar this morning. He says that the Surya Namaskar performance on Makar Sankranti is more relevant in the time of COVID-19. Due to the corona pandemic, the Ministry of AYUSH has asked people to perform Surya Namaskar at their homes and upload videos.
AYUSH Minister says that Surya Namaskar builds vitality and immunity and hence it is able to keep corona virus away. Every person has participated in it for the welfare of human society.
Sonowal had told, ‘The Ministry of AYUSH has started this program under the direction and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.’ It was informed that all the major yoga institutes in India and abroad – Indian Yoga Association, National Yoga Sports Federation, Yoga Certification Board, FIT India, and many government and non-government organizations are participating in the event. Celebrities and sports personalities were also asked to promote Surya Namaskar through video messages. Sportspersons and employees of SAI also participated in the programme.

This type of exercise benefits the whole body. By doing Surya Namaskar, sufficient amount of pure air enters the lungs. Along with the cure of the disease, there is a glow on the face as well. Body feels strong. The 12 steps of Surya Namaskar should be practiced every day, due to which the mind remains active.
