new Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Friday, where he was seen sharing moments frankly with the locals. He enjoyed tea at a local stall, played ‘Damru’ at the iconic Kashi Vishwanath Temple, also visited the railway station and interacted with local shopkeepers.
The visit comes ahead of the seventh phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, as votes will be cast in Varanasi on Monday.
A video shared by PM Modi’s official YouTube channel shows him visiting Cantt railway station in Varanasi, where he was offered a cup of tea.
In the visuals posted by the BJP, the prime minister is seen having ‘chai pe charcha’ (conversation over a cup of tea) with the locals.
In another video, he is seen playing damaru at the city’s iconic Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Earlier on Friday, PM Modi also did a mega road show in the temple town. Before the road show, he garlanded the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. During the roadshow, the crowd cheered and showered flowers on the Prime Minister’s convoy.
Varanasi Lok Sabha seat consists of five assembly constituencies Rohaniya, Varanasi North, Varanasi South, Varanasi and Sewapuri Cantt. There are 4,12,297 registered voters for Varanasi Cantt in Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections 2017.
In 2017 there were 24 candidates competing for Varanasi Cantt. The assembly constituency seat Varanasi Cantt was one of the 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the last elections, Saurabh Srivastava of BJP defeated Anil Srivastava of Congress by a comfortable margin of 61,326 votes.
Meanwhile, polling for the sixth phase of the UP elections, in which Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath is contesting from Gorakhpur, concluded on Thursday with a turnout of around 54%. Counting of votes for all 403 assembly seats in the state will take place on March 10.
