Sydney: Former Australia captain Ian Chappell believes that the recently concluded Test series between South Africa and India saw a tough fight, which has been missing from the Ashes. He said that apart from bowling in the Test series between South Africa and India, excellent batting was also seen. “The series has seen great competition, which has been missing from the Ashes competition,” Chappell told ESPNcricinfo on Sunday, as South Africa surprisingly beat India.
South Africa won the three-match series 2-1 in Cape Town on Friday. Talking further about the batting, especially during the series, Chappell remarked, “The South Africa series was dominated by bowling on pitches which may have been good for the fielding team, but also saw some excellent batting from their side. “
Chappell praised Peterson’s efforts in the series and asked where he was so far. In the Cape Town Test, Pietersen scored 72 in the first innings and 82 in the second innings to lay the groundwork for South Africa’s successful chase of 212 runs. He was also adjudged ‘Player of the Series’ for being the highest run-scorer in the series, scoring 276 runs in six innings at an average of 46.
