Chennai: Amidst his Tamil Nadu tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised Tamil culture and Tamil language in Chennai. He said that ‘Tamil language is eternal and Tamil culture is global.’
In his address, PM Modi said, “From Chennai to Canada, from Madurai to Malaysia, from Namakkal to New York, from Salem to South Africa, the occasions of Pongal and Puthandu are marked with great enthusiasm. Describing the land of Tamil Nadu as special, PM Modi said that it is wonderful to be back in the state.
The PM said, “It is always wonderful to be back in Tamil Nadu! This land is special. The people, culture and language of this state are excellent.
Center committed to popularize Tamil language and culture: PM Modi
He said that the central government is committed to popularize the Tamil language and culture. “In January this year, the new campus of The Central Institute of Classical Tamil was inaugurated. The new campus is fully funded by the central government. The campus has a library, e-library, seminar hall and multimedia hall.
PM Modi said, “A ‘Subramanya Bharati Chair’ on Tamil studies at Banaras Hindu University was announced recently. Since BHU is located in my constituency, the joy was even more special.”
The Prime Minister said that he and others have gathered to celebrate yet another glorious milestone in the development journey of Tamil Nadu.
31,500 crore gift to Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 11 projects worth over Rs 31,500 crore, including the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin was also present on the occasion.
PM Modi also inaugurated 1,152 houses constructed under the Light House Project- Chennai. Let us inform that this project has been constructed at a cost of Rs 116 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban.
Lighthouse projects were launched by PM Modi on January 1, 2021, to use new technology for faster completion while making housing projects more resilient. Since then, he has been regularly reviewing the status of the project, including drone-based surveillance.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of five railway stations in Tamil Nadu – Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanyakumari. In addition, the redevelopment of the railway stations project will be completed at a cost of over Rs 1,800 crore. This project has been started with a view to enhance the convenience and comfort of the passengers through modern facilities.
According to information, the 75 km long Madurai-Theni (Railway Gauge Conversion Project), constructed at a cost of over Rs 500 crore, will boost tourism in the region, while the 30 km long third railway line between Tambaram-Chengalpattu, will cost more than Rs. Made at cost. 590 crore, will give a boost to suburban connections.
