However, for the last two days, thunderstorms and rain have started in the coastal areas. Major part of South 24 Parganas district has been badly affected. On Friday night, there was a thunderstorm at a speed of 70 to 75 km. Trees have been broken by this. The house is damaged. On the other hand, the 5 fishermen aboard the trawler which sank near Kendo Island on Friday were not found till Saturday morning, due to which there has been mourning among the family members.
Due to the storm and rain, power lines were snapped at various places, causing power outages in many areas of the district. After Friday evening, the speed of the typhoon gradually increased, although there was not much damage to the embankments of the river and the marine soil.
Many districts affected due to storm and rain
The speed of the storm had started decreasing since night itself. However, strong winds are blowing on the Sundarbans coast since Saturday morning. It is raining too. The sky is covered with dark clouds and it is raining continuously. After a slight improvement in the situation this morning, steamer service was started between Kakdwip Lot No.8 and Kachuberia. Several passengers were stranded as steamer services were suspended from Friday afternoon. They were stuck all night. On the other hand, the trawler who drowned near Kendo Island on Friday has not been found yet. Search for him is going on. Families of missing fishermen are worried. It is being said that the search operation will be started again when the weather improves. A total of 13 fishermen were rescued in a trawler named FB Satyanarayana and taken to Kakdwip sub-divisional hospital at night. Three people were admitted to the hospital, while the rest were discharged after first aid.
Trees fell, lightning struck, loss of vegetable cultivation
On the other hand, due to the torrential rains in Jhargram district for the last two days, agricultural land has been flooded in many areas of Alampur area of Gopiballabhpur block number one of Jhargram district. Vegetable cultivation has been damaged due to water and the only bridge leading to Alampur has been flooded. Many trees have fallen on the road with strong wind. Electric poles have been broken at many places. Local residents said that many mud houses have collapsed. Along with this, trees have also fallen on the roads in different areas. Due to this there has been power outage in many areas. On wartime basis, the employees of the Electricity Department have started the work of repairing the power lines.
