New Delhi: Rajiv Kumar has resigned as the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. Economist Suman Berry will be the new Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog in place of Rajiv Kumar. Suman Berry will take over after April 30. Let us tell you that the chairman of NITI Aayog is the Prime Minister.
Indian economist Suman Berry has been the Chief of the World Bank. Suman Berry has completed her graduation from Oxford University and her master’s degree from Princeton University. Suman Berry is currently working as a Non-Resident Fellow of an economic think-tank in the Belgian capital, Brussels. Suman Berry has worked in the World Bank for about 28 years. Apart from this, he has also been a member of the Statistical Commission of India to Monetary Policy and the Technical Advisory Committee formed by RBI.
As of now, the reasons for Rajiv Kumar’s removal from the post are not known. After coming to power for the first time in 2014, the Modi government renamed the Planning Commission as NITI Aayog. Then Arvind Panagariya was made the first Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog. After this Rajiv Kumar became the second Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog.
Rajiv Kumar took over as the Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog in August 2017. This responsibility was entrusted to Rajiv Kumar after the then Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya stepped down from the commission. Rajeev Kumar earned a doctorate in economics from Oxford University and a PhD from Lucknow University. He has also been a Senior Fellow at the Center for Policy Research.
