Beijing: Tencent’s PUBG Mobile was the highest-grossing mobile game worldwide in December 2021, with player spend of $244 million, representing an increase of 36.7 percent from December 2020. According to the Sensor Tower report, about 68.3 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue comes from China, where it is localized as Game for Peace, followed by the US at 6.8 percent and Turkey with 5.5 percent.
Mihoyo’s Genshin Impact was the second highest-grossing mobile game worldwide in December 2021, with gross revenue of $134.3 million. About 28 percent of Genshin Impact’s revenue was from China, followed by the US at 23.4 percent.
The next highest grossing game was Roblox from Roblox Corporation, followed by Moon Active’s Coin Master and Tencent’s Honor of Kings.
The global mobile game market generated an estimated $7.4 billion in December 2021 from player spending on the App Store and Google Play, representing a year-on-year decrease of nearly 2 percent.
The number one market for global revenue in December 2021 was the US, which generated $2.2 billion, or 29.6 percent of total player spending worldwide.
Japan is second in terms of revenue at 20.3 percent, followed by China with close to 15.7 percent where Google Play is not available.
