new Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with the beneficiaries of Jan Aushadhi Project through video conferencing. Interacting with the beneficiaries, PM Modi said that today more than 8,500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have opened in the country and these centers have emerged as solution centers for the common man, not just government stores.
Jan Aushadhi Week is being celebrated across the country from 1st March to create awareness about the use of generic medicines and the benefits of Jan Aushadhi Project. The theme of this event is ‘Jan Aushadhi – People’s Useful’. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was also present on the occasion.
Interacting with a beneficiary from Patna, the Prime Minister asked how he came to know about Jan Aushadhi medicines and also inquired about the quality of medicines. In response, the woman said that she has benefited a lot from the medicines, as now she is able to get her medicines for a month at Rs 250 instead of Rs 1200-1500. The woman also said that she now spends this savings on social works.
Appreciating his spirit, Prime Minister Modi expressed hope that people’s faith in Jan Aushadhi would grow through individuals like him. He said that the middle class can be the great messenger of this scheme. He also talked about the impact of the disease on the financial condition of the middle and lower-middle and poor sections of the society. He called upon the literate section of the society to talk about the benefits of Jan Aushadhi.
Interacting with a ‘Divyang’ beneficiary, the Prime Minister asked about his experience whether all the medicines required by him are available at Jan Aushadhi stores? The beneficiary replied that he gets all the medicines from the shop and saves Rs 2,000-2,500 every month, as his parents also require the medicines.
Addressing the gathering, he said that Jan Aushadhi Kendras give medicine to the body, there are medicines to reduce the anxiety of the mind and work is also being done to give relief to the people by saving money. After the prescription of the medicine came in hand, the apprehension in the minds of the people that, I do not know how much money will be spent in buying the medicine, that worry has subsided.
He further added that sanitary napkins for women at Re 1 are also available at these centres. The sale of over 21 crore sanitary napkins shows that Jan Aushadhi Kendras are making life easier for a large number of women.
Prime Minister Modi said, “Today more than eight and a half thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras are open in the country. These centers are now becoming centers of solution and convenience for common man and not just government stores.”
He said that if we look at the figures of this financial year, more than 800 crore medicines have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
He said that the government has also controlled the price of more than 800 medicines needed for the treatment of diseases like cancer, tuberculosis, diabetes, heart disease. The government also ensured that the cost of stunting and knee implants were also kept under control.
PM Modi said, “Today there are more than 50 crore people under the purview of Ayushman Bharat scheme. Since when this scheme started, more than 3 crore people have benefited from it. They have got free treatment in hospitals. Had the scheme not been there, these poor brothers and sisters of ours would have had to spend about 70 thousand crore rupees.
He said, “What we have started is the campaign. Today the poor have provided free more than crore sessions of dialysis service. PM National Dialysis Program has saved Rs 550 crore, while knee transplant and drug price control has saved Rs 13,000 crore. of it.”
The Prime Minister also told that a few days back the government has taken another big decision, which will benefit the poor and middle class children. “We have decided that half the seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with that of government medical colleges,” he said.
