Earlier on Saturday, May 21, the government had cut excise duty. Excise duty on petrol was cut by Rs 8 per liter and in diesel by Rs 6 per liter. Since then the price of petrol and diesel has come down.
After the announcement of the Center, the governments of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha and Kerala have cut VAT. In Rajasthan, it has been announced to cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per liter. The Kerala state government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.41 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.36 per liter. The Odisha government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.23 and on diesel by Rs 1.36. The Maharashtra government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.08 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.44 per liter.
