New Delhi: Government sources said that the Republic Day celebrations will now start from January 23 every year instead of January 24, which will include the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose.

“This is in line with the Narendra Modi government’s focus on celebrating/recalling important aspects of our history and culture,” the sources said. The government had earlier started celebrating the birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose as Parakram Divas.

Other such days, which will be celebrated every year, include Partition Horror Remembrance Day on 14 August, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on 31 October (Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary), Tribal Gaurav Diwas (Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary) on 15 November, Constitution Day on 26 November. And 26 December is Veer Bal Diwas (homage to the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh).

The Center has drawn up a plan to promote sites across the country associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In October last year, news agency PTI had reported that the tourism ministry was planning curated tours as part of events to celebrate the anniversary of the formation of the Azad Hind government, the provisional government announced by Bose on October 21, 1943. .

An official was quoted by PTI as saying, “Such sites have been identified and will include multiple routes. We have prepared curated itineraries, which cover destinations associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Sites related to Netaji. Tour operators will be given itineraries to promote.”
