New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has called for strengthening the joint family system and the tradition of respecting elders, the core of the country’s civilizational values.
Underlining the important role played by the elderly members in a family in guiding and mentoring the younger members, Shnaidu on Saturday said, the inter-generational ties help protect and promote the family value system.

Reflecting on the importance of festivals in Indian culture, Naidu said that today’s youth should understand the importance of festivals like Sankranti in celebrating the festivals of nature, keeping families together and bringing peace and harmony in the society.
Makar Sankranti is the day which is considered as the day of Sun’s entry into Capricorn and is celebrated all over India with different names like Pongal, Bihu, Sakrant. Apart from this, this festival is also celebrated in Bangladesh and Nepal.
