Mumbai: In the ‘Bully Bye’ app case, a complainant has told the Mumbai Police that he has been receiving threatening phone calls. After which the police have registered a case against an unknown person in a non-cognizable offence. An official gave this information on Monday.

According to the complainant, the caller threatened her and asked why she disclosed their names and lodged an FIR, an official of the Cyber Police Station in Bandra Kurla Complex said.

The official said that a case has been registered against the unknown person on Saturday. He said that no FIR has been registered in this regard yet and investigation is on.

Significantly, without permission of hundreds of Muslim women, their photographs were tampered with and uploaded on the ‘Bully Bai’ app for ‘auction’.

Based on a complaint lodged by one of the women targeted by the app, the Cyber Police Station (West) of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch had registered an FIR on January 1 against unidentified persons who developed the app and some Twitter handles reported it. Content was disseminated.

The app was hosted by the US-based open-source software platform GitHub on December 31, 2021, in which at least 100 Muslim women were posted online with vulgar remarks of molested images. So far four arrests have been made in the case. All the four accused are students.

The Cyber Cell of Mumbai Police, which is probing the case, has made three arrests so far. Mumbai Police has arrested 19-year-old girl Shweta Singh from Uttarakhand, 21-year-old engineering student Vishal Kumar Jha from Bengaluru, 21-year-old Mayank Rawal from Uttarakhand in the case. Whereas, 21-year-old Neeraj Vishnoi, who is being told by the Delhi Police as the main conspirator of the case, has been arrested from Jorhat in Assam.

After Vishnoi’s arrest, the Delhi Police had claimed that the matter was resolved with the arrest of the main conspirator.
