    More than 10 thousand COVID cases came in Odisha for the third consecutive day

    Bhubaneswar: More than 10,000 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Odisha on Saturday for the third consecutive day. The state has witnessed 10,856 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the active case tally to 61,809.

    The state had reported 10,273 Covid cases on Friday and 10,059 on its previous day.

    The Information and Public Relations Department says that out of 10,856 fresh cases, 1,021 cases were in the age group of 0 to 18 years. Similarly, 6,293 were found in quarantined people, while 4,563 are local contact cases.

    The maximum number of 3087 COVID-19 cases were reported in Khurdha district, followed by Sundergarh (1943), Cuttack (909), Sambalpur (500) and Mayurbhanj district with 376 new Covid-19 cases.

    A total of 74,936 tests were conducted in the state on Friday and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) recorded increased from 13.57 per cent to 14.48 per cent.

    Similarly, the state has confirmed two more Covid-19 deaths after the audit. Cases of death were reported from Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts. Now, the death toll in the state has gone up to 8,478.

    Meanwhile, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has temporarily closed the OPD services of all Specialty and Super Specialty Departments from January 17 till further orders. The institute has also decided to stop or reduce elective surgeries. Officials said only emergency surgery would be done.

    He said that the AIIMS authority has taken this step after several faculty, residents, staff and students of premier medical institutions were found infected with the COVID-19 virus.

    Patients who have already registered themselves online can attend their respective department with only one attendant by showing online booking number.

    In an order issued on Saturday, the institute said that the overall routine screening of patients through AIIMS, Bhubaneswar health app and telemedicine facility will continue on all working days.

    Telemedicine service will be made available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Similarly, the Swasthya mobile app will be in service from 8.30 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday and from 8.30 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.
