New Delhi: In the midst of the Corona crisis, the festival of Makar Sankranti and Pongal is being celebrated with great pomp across the country. Makar Sankranti is celebrated in different states with different names and methods. In North India where it is called Makar Sankranti and in Tamil Nadu it is known as Pongal. In Assam it is called Magh Bihu and in Gujarat it is called Uttarayan. On this occasion, many leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have congratulated the countrymen.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi has congratulated the people in five languages by tweeting. A tweet by the Prime Minister was made ,. He wrote in his tweet, ‘Wishing you all a very Happy Makar Sankranti. May this festival associated with the worship of nature bring health and happiness in everyone’s life.
After this, the Prime Minister congratulated the countrymen by tweeting many more. He congratulated the festival of Magh Bihu and wished for happiness and prosperity. He wished the people of Gujarat a happy Uttarayan.
Extending his best wishes on Pongal, PM Modi said, Pongal is synonymous with the vibrant culture of Tamil Nadu. On this special occasion, my greetings to all and especially to the Tamil people spread all over the world. I pray that our bond with nature and the spirit of brotherhood deepen in our society.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated the countrymen on this occasion. He tweeted, ‘Greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Magh Bihu, Uttarayan and Paush Parv. May all be blessed with happiness, peace and prosperity. Praying for your good health and well being.’
The Chief Minister of West Bengal tweeted, ‘Wishing you all the best on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. May everyone be blessed with lots of happiness, peace and prosperity.
