Nagpur: Police have recovered the skin of a black deer while searching the house of a doctor accused of illegal abortion in Maharashtra’s Wardha district. An officer associated with the investigation gave this information on Saturday.
On January 14, the police had recovered 11 skulls and 54 bones of fetuses from the private hospital premises in Arvi taluka of the district where the accused doctors worked. The hospital has been sealed.
Police had arrested five people, including Dr. Rekha Kadam, two nurses, for aborting a 13-year-old girl.
Apart from the four doctors, there are 11 nurses in the hospital. On January 10, Dr. Rekha Kadam was arrested for allegedly aborting a 13-year-old girl. After this, between January 12 and 13, two nurses Pooja Dhat and Sangeeta Kale were also arrested.
On Saturday, the official said that in this connection the house of Dr. Kadam was searched, from where the skin of the black deer was recovered. The skins have been handed over to the forest department officials and a separate case has been registered in this regard.
He told that the police had arrested Dr. Kadam and two nurses of the hospital when they were illegally aborting a minor girl. The parents of the minor boy have also been arrested in this case. The boy is accused of raping the girl.
According to the police, the doctor did not inform the authorities about the abortion of a girl below the age of 18 years.
According to the Indian Express, this maternity hospital is run by the family of Dr. Kumar Singh Kadam. There are four doctors in the hospital and all four are from the Kadam family. Apart from Kumar Singh Kadam, his wife Shailja Kadam, son Neeraj Kadam and daughter-in-law Rekha Kadam are the other three doctors.
Senior police inspector Bhanudas Pidurkar of Arvi police station said, “We have sent all the remains (skulls and bones) to Nagpur forensic lab for postmortem and forensic analysis. They have been requested for the report at the earliest. We are investigating whether more abortions were performed in the hospital. Till now we have information about only one case.
The mother of a 13-year-old pregnant minor had filed an FIR on January 9, alleging that her daughter was raped by a 17-year-old boy and underwent an abortion on January 7 in a hospital, when she was five months old. was pregnant.
As per reports, the girl has been shifted to another hospital and her condition is said to be stable.
Pidurkar said, “The 17-year-old boy has been sent to juvenile home and his parents have been arrested for threatening the victim’s mother.” As per the law, we should have informed the hospital authorities that the victim was taken to the hospital for an abortion. At present all the accused are in judicial custody.
Dr. Rekha Kadam is alleged to have taken Rs 30,000 for this procedure (abortion). Police said the fetus was buried in a pit dug for the biogas plant inside the hospital premises. It is alleged that the nurses helped in disposing of the fetus. Other bones were also recovered from the same pit.
Police said that it is being investigated whether the bones and skulls found from the biogas plant were disposed of legally or illegally.
Deputy SP Sunil Salunke said, ‘Our investigation is on. We searched the hospital again on Friday, 14 January. Other people of the hospital will be interrogated to find evidence in the case.
Sub Inspector Jyotsna Giri, the investigating officer of the case, told that she will also record the statements of other members of the Kadam family.
