This festival is associated with the story of Dulla Bhatti and Mata Sati. It is believed that Mother Sati had committed self-immolation on this day in the yagya of Prajapati Daksha. Along with this, on this day the folk hero Dulla Bhatti, who saved the shame of Sikh girls from the terror of the Mughals. In his memory, the festival of Lohri is celebrated even today. People sing folk songs together and dholtas are played.
