Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested human rights activist Ehsan Untu on Friday, 14 January.
According to the news of The Hindu, Untu has been booked on charges of spreading discontent, ill-will and enmity against India.
A police spokesperson said, “Untu is spreading lies and hatred through social media. He is not only trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir, but is also spreading discontent, ill-will and animosity against the nation of India. He is actively spreading terrorist-separatist agenda and inciting youth to indulge in violence and illegal activities.
According to the police, the investigation of the case has been started and Untu is currently on police remand.
Let us tell you that recently the Jammu and Kashmir Police has started a big campaign against those Kashmiris who are vocal on social media and are critical of the current government and its policies.
Under this campaign, earlier the police have registered cases against Muzammil Ayyub Thakur and Dr. Asif Dar under various sections including terrorism and separatism, while both are living outside India.
According to the police, Untu was an active separatist and used to spread separatism on Twitter under ‘Radio Resistance Kashmir’ along with Thakur and Dr. Dar. Dr. Dar and Thakur have denied the police’s allegations.
Untoo is the President of the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir.
