AFC Asian Cup: Sumati Kumari, who hails from Jharkhand’s Gumla district, has been selected in the 23-member Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup. In such a situation, Sumati has become the first woman footballer from Jharkhand, who has got a place in the senior women’s Indian team for international tournaments. Let us tell you that this tournament will be played from January 20 to February 6 at various places across Maharashtra. Sumati Kumari is only 18 years old.
Sumati was part of a 7-member U-17 team that was brought to Morabadi for proper diet and training. It was told that they had gone to their homes, then after the intervention of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, they were brought back from their homes. At the same time, praising this achievement, Chief Minister Soren congratulated Sumati and extended her best wishes for the competition.
Sumati, 18, who plays the role of a striker, hails from Londra village in Bharno block of Gumla district. Sumati’s father Firu Oraon and mother Saniyaro Devi are farmers by profession. Sumati is the youngest among six siblings.
The Jharkhand government hosted these Indian women squads for 3 months in Jamshedpur on the instructions of the CM, as part of its endeavor to empower women in sports.
In recent years, Sumati has shown her sporting performance at the international level in the under-15 category in SAIF sports in Bhutan, Hong Kong and Turkey. In three countries, Sumati has scored three, two and two goals respectively. Sumati comes from a very poor family and has been one of the most promising sportspersons of India in the last 2-3 years.
