Assembly elections are going to be held soon in five states of the country including Punjab. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is conducting a survey. Over eight lakh people have so far responded to the AAP’s survey and asked them to pick a candidate from the party who could be the chief ministerial face for the February 14 Punjab Assembly polls. AAP has launched the survey as part of its ‘Janata Chungi Apna CM’ campaign.
Senior AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema, who is also the Leader of the Opposition, said on Friday evening, “In just 24 hours, more than eight lakh people have called on the AAP to choose the party’s chief ministerial face in Punjab.” The phone number has been answered.
Cheema said that during the last 24 hours, over three lakh WhatsApp messages, over four lakh phone calls, over 50,000 text messages and over one lakh voice messages have been received on the number.
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party would announce its chief ministerial candidate after collecting and compiling the complete data.
AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday asked people who should be the party’s chief ministerial face in the Punjab Assembly polls, even as he said his own priority for the post was Bhagwant Mann. However, Kejriwal has excluded himself from the race for the post of CM. He had said that AAP has launched its ‘Janata Chungi Apna CM’ campaign and said that the name of the candidate for the top post would be announced after receiving the feedback of the people.
A mobile number was launched by the party on which people can voice their views and send text or WhatsApp messages till 5 pm on January 17 to give their opinion and who should be the party’s chief ministerial candidate.
Cheema claimed that the people of Punjab had made up their mind to wipe out traditional parties “involved in dirty politics” and said that AAP would form the next government. He said that people will vote in favor of AAP with a clear majority.
