Mumbai: There is good news for five-time champions Mumbai Indians as their middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has joined the team’s bio-bubble after recovering from a finger injury and completing the mandatory quarantine period. Yadav took part in a strength and conditioning session along with a few other Mumbai Indians stars on Wednesday and will now be available for the match against Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium here on Saturday (April 2).
Suryakumar suffered an injury during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against West Indies in Kolkata on 20 February. He was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and has recently recovered from injury.
“Suriyakumar Yadav has pulled out of his mandatory quarantine and joined the team for gym sessions along with his teammates Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan and Jasprit Bumrah,” the franchise said in a statement on Thursday.
Under Paul Chapman’s supervision, the team did a strength and conditioning session on Wednesday. The session included weight and fitness training, with a focus on working on core fitness, the statement said.
In Yadav’s absence, Mumbai Indians’ middle-order struggled to make good starts provided by openers Rohit Sharma (41) and Ishan Kishan (81), who took the opening wicket in their four-wicket loss against Delhi. Scored 67 runs. Mumbai Indians scored 177/5, which Delhi chased down in 18.2 overs.
If Yadav returns to action against the Royals on Saturday, the pressure on Tilak Verma and Kieron Pollard in the middle order will ease a bit.
