New Delhi: The Indian team once again failed to win the Test series in South Africa. Africa defeated India by 7 wickets in the last Test played in Cape Town. The target of 211 runs was easily achieved by the African batsmen and in this way Team India was defeated 1-2 in the series. India also lost points from the ICC World Test Championship due to the defeat. According to the latest points table for 2021-23, India has come at number five with 49.07 percentage of points. At the same time, South Africa has reached number four with 66.66 percentage of points.
7 captains all failed
Team India has toured South Africa eight times. But no one has been able to win the test series. In the year 1992-93, the Indian team went to Africa under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. India were defeated 0-1 in the four-match series on this tour. The Test matches held in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town ended in draws. At the same time, India had to face defeat by nine wickets in the Port Elizabeth Test match.
The Indian team went to South Africa in 1996-97 under the captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar. India had to face defeat 0-2 in the three-match Test series. After this, in the year 2001-02, the team went to South Africa under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. During that time, India suffered a 0-1 defeat in the two-match Test series.
Later in the year 2006-07, under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, Team India went on a South African tour. Despite the lead in the series, the India team could not win the series. India lost 1-2 in the three-match series. India had the best performance in South Africa in 2013-14 under Dhoni’s captaincy. India performed brilliantly and drew the three-match Test series 1-1.
India went to Africa in 2017-18 before this series under the captaincy of current captain Virat Kohli. But the result of the Test series was not in favor of the team. The Virat Brigade had to face defeat in the matches in Cape Town and Centurion. Lost the series 1-2. This time Team India was expected to return after winning the series, but after winning the Centurion Test, it lost two consecutive Tests. The defeat of Johannesburg and Cape Town once again broke the dream of winning a Test series on African soil.
