The Union Education Ministry has summoned a report on the incident of violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Union Education Ministry has asked JNU to prepare a complete report of the matter and submit it to the ministry. The day of Ramnavami started with a dispute between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. A group of students were in favor of serving non-vegetarian food in the hostel menu. The other group wanted that only vegetarian food should be served to all the students in the hostel. The incident of violence was seen after a dispute between the two groups.
Following the violence, the Jawaharlal Nehru University administration has warned the students not to indulge in any incident that disturbs the peace and harmony on the campus. Students’ wing ABVP said, a puja was organized by JNU students at Kaveri Hostel on the occasion of Ram Navami. The general students of JNU had to participate in large numbers in this program. It is also worth mentioning that at the same time Ramzan was being celebrated very peacefully in the hostel. The puja was to begin at 3.30 pm, but due to the uproar created by the Left, it could start at 5.00 pm. Peaceful celebrations of Iftar and Ram Navami were happening simultaneously in the university. However, the Left is unable to digest this fact. He planned to create a ruckus among the students by raising the issue of ‘non-vegetarian food’.
Left-backed students’ union SFI said, “We condemn the deliberate attempt by the ABVP to disrupt the campus environment. Anti-social elements continued to riot, break bikes, beat up hostellers and students in and around Kaveri Hostel. Police has reached the spot but refused to do anything despite the request of the students. We appeal to the students of JNU to unite for moral policing, defeating communalism.
