New Delhi: IIT Delhi, one of the most renowned and prestigious higher education institutions in the country, is now going to organize summer boot camps for school students. This summer boot camp of IIT Delhi is being organized on the lines of Do-It-Yourself named ‘Change Makers’. Here school students can work on projects like air pollution monitors, medical equipment for the visually impaired and smart furniture. Students of class 11th and 12th schools will be able to use state-of-the-art facilities within the IIT Delhi campus to turn their impressive ideas into reality.
Non-residential summer boot camp with rapid prototyping-based training in digital fabrication techniques will be organized from 23rd May to 24th June 2022 at IIT Delhi. The students will be trained at Makerspace, a do-it-yourself facility located at IIT Delhi. After the training, the students will continue to avail the facilities of IIT Delhi till the conclusion of the boot camp to create projects aimed at addressing some high impact social problems.
The nature of the projects involves making electro-mechanical prototypes for the problem. The kind of projects that are possible range from building an air pollution monitor to a medical device for the visually impaired to smart furniture.
Professor Jai Dhariwal, Coordinator, Summer Boot Camp, said, “We urge the students of class 11th and 12th, whom we consider to be changemakers, to use their interests and skills to bring about a positive change in the society. Government initiatives on Tinkering have helped in inculcating a culture of innovation and problem solving mindset among school students. The Summer Boot Camp will provide world-class R&D facilities and mentorship to selected students committed to take this initiative forward, to bring their impactful products and solutions closer to implementation.
The boot camp will also give an opportunity to the students of IIT Delhi to mentor these school students. These boot camps will further strengthen the Do-It-Yourself culture within the institute and the country.

Pritha Chandra, Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives, IIT Delhi, said, “IIT Delhi is committed to popularizing science, and with this objective in mind, it has recently launched a monthly lecture series Science for High School Students. Proposed several outreach initiatives including Tech Spin and STEM mentorship programs for girl students. We hope that the Summer Boot Camp will help in further strengthening the relationships that the faculty and students of IIT Delhi have established with the school students through various programmes. Applications from students interested in boot camp will be considered till 7th May 2022 or till slots become available.
