New Delhi: If you have a 15-year-old vehicle, then this news is not less than a shock for you, because these days the government is going to take strict steps. Now vehicles older than 15 years will now have to get new registration, for which eight times more money will be spent. This rule will be applicable where petrol vehicles which are 15 years old and diesel vehicles which are 10 years old are considered unregistered.
For renewing the registration of a 15 year old car from 1st April, Rs 5,000 will have to be paid. Presently the registration piece is Rs 600. At the same time, this fee for foreign vehicles will increase from Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000. For registration of two-wheeler vehicles, instead of Rs 300, Rs 1,000 will have to be paid.
Not only this, penalty will also be imposed for delay in registration. Delay in registration of private vehicles will attract a fine of Rs 300 per month and for commercial vehicles Rs 500 per month.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, from April 1, the cost of fitness test of old transport and commercial vehicles will also increase. After the commercial vehicles are more than 8 years old, they must have a fitness certificate.
The fitness test fee for taxis will be Rs 7,000 instead of Rs 1,000. For buses and trucks, this fee will increase from Rs 1,500 to Rs 12,500.
The central government has increased the compliance fee so that owners can choose to scrap their old vehicles which leads to more pollution.
More than one crore vehicles in India are eligible for scrapping. The Center has also made the process online to make it easier for car owners to scrap old vehicles.
