The police is going to tighten the noose afresh on the financial empire worth crores of mafia Atiq Ahmed. Prayagraj Police has started ‘Operation Octopus’ to demolish the anonymous financial empire of Atiq Ahmed. This campaign will be run jointly with ‘Operation Giraffe’ launched earlier. This is the second operation launched within a month to crack down on the land mafias who are in control of the black money of Atiq Ahmed.
After the elimination of Mafia Atiq Ahmed, the traces of his black money worth thousands of crores earned through crimes have started coming to light. The police has now started ‘Operation Octopus’ to crack down on the benami property worth crores of rupees of Atiq’s henchmen and his close people. This is being said to be the next step of the operation started a month ago. Under ‘Operation Giraffe’, while unnamed properties will be detected with the help of manual and technology, under Operation Octopus, action will be taken against these properties.

According to top police officials, 20 cells will be formed under this plan of the task force, out of which eight cells will work under ‘Operation Octopus’. Each cell will have two members and both will be headed by a Deputy SP. One of its cells will work to detect benami properties through manual intelligence, i.e. from the network of informers, while the other branch will detect benami properties through technical intelligence. In this, information will be collected from the social media accounts of those close to the mafia. Along with this, help of data mining experts and some software will also be taken.

A cell has been entrusted with the task of ascertaining income tax details. Similarly, the third branch has to collect details related to registry, the fourth branch has to collect documents related to municipal corporation, the fifth branch has to collect documents related to housing development, the sixth branch has to collect documents related to revenue. The 7th branch has to find out about the owners of benami property and which government schemes they are availing. Similarly, the 8th branch is trying to find out through PAN dump technology, in which properties the PAN card of the concerned person has been used.
