The water crisis is going to worsen soon in the country’s capital. This information has been given by Delhi Government’s Water Minister Atishi herself. Atishi has described it as an emergency like situation. He has written a letter to LG VK Saxena appealing for immediate intervention. He has blamed the Chief Secretary for this coming disaster as the reason for the closure of all the funds of the Water Board.
Water Minister Atishi says that on the instructions of the Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary Ashish Verma stopped all the funds of the Water Board from August. Funds are not being released even after written orders from the Finance Minister. There is no money even for salary and routine work. Due to lack of money all the contractors have refused to work.
This is an emergency like situation
Atishi says that due to this, there may be severe water shortage, dirty water and sewer overflow in many areas of Delhi in the coming days. Expressing concern, Atishi said that if this happens, there could be a danger of epidemic in many parts of Delhi. He has described it as an emergency like situation.
Union Minister had accused Delhi Jal Board of scam
Union Minister and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi on Saturday accused Delhi’s Kejriwal government of a new scam in Delhi Jal Board. He had said that tanker mafia is operating in many areas of the capital. Where there is no tap water, the tanker mafia collects Rs 10,000 from every street. He had accused the Kejriwal government and said that in the name of supplying water by tanker in Delhi, the budget has been increased by 35 percent, but a total of 12000 (work order) works have been awarded. Works worth Rs. 600 crores were given and for awarding tenders, a small amount (less than Rs. 5 lakhs) was budgeted for the work.
