Dharma Sansad: Supreme Court issues notices to Center and others in hate speech case


A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli issued the notices on a plea by journalist Kurban Ali and former Patna High Court judge and senior advocate Anjana Prakash.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, sought the earliest hearing of the matter, saying that another Dharma Sansad is going to be held on January 23.

But the bench said that some related matters already seem to be pending before other benches and it has to be looked into first before listing the matter. It said that it would be limited to issue of notices only for the present.

The plea has sought a direction to the SIT (Special Investigation Team) to conduct an “independent, credible and impartial inquiry” into incidents of hate speech.

The court also allowed the petitioners to report (report) their concerns to the local authority regarding similar programs to be held at other places in future, which as per the petitioners are contrary to the stipulated law as well as other decisions of the court. Huh.

The court has listed the matter for further hearing after 10 days.

The petition specifically referred to hate speeches against Muslims allegedly delivered in Haridwar and Delhi on December 17 and 19, 2021 and requested the apex court to provide guidelines to deal with such speeches.

The petition said that one program was organized by Yeti Narasimhanand in Haridwar and another by ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’ in Delhi and these programs allegedly called for massacre of members of a particular community (Muslim). it was done.

It is to be known that this ‘Dharma Sansad’ was organized by Hindutva leaders and fundamentalists in Haridwar, Uttarakhand between 17-19 December 2021, in which openly hate speeches were given against Muslims and minorities, even their There was also a call for genocide.

Hardline Hindutva leader Yeti Narasimhanand was one of the organizers of this Dharma Sansad. Narasimhanand is already in the eyes of the police for giving hate speeches.

Yeti Narasimhanand, while making provocative statements against the Muslim society, said that he will give one crore rupees to the person who becomes ‘Hindu Prabhakaran’.

Two FIRs have been registered against 15 people in the case. The first FIR was registered in this regard on 23 December 2021 after the controversy over the video of the event went viral, in which only Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi was named. Before leaving Islam and adopting Hinduism, Tyagi’s name was Wasim Rizvi.

The names of Swami Dharamdas and Sadhvi Annapurna alias Pooja Shakun Pandey were added to the FIR on 25 December 2021. Pooja Shakun Pandey is the Mahamandaleshwar of Niranjini Akhara and general secretary of Hindu Mahasabha.

After this, on January 1, the names of Yeti Narasimhanand and Sagar Sindhuraj Maharaj of Roorkee were included in this FIR.

On January 2, the state’s Director General of Police had also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. After that, on January 3, a second FIR was registered against 10 people in connection with the Parliament of Religions.

In the second FIR, the organizers of the event, Yeti Narasimhanand Giri, Jitendra Narayan Tyagi (earlier known as Wasim Rizvi), Sagar Sindhuraj Maharaj, Dharamdas, Parmanand, Sadhvi Annapurna, Anand Swaroop, Ashwini Upadhyay, Suresh Chavan and Prabodhanand Giri were named. Has been done.
