Mahagathbandhan candidate Devesh Chandra Thakur has been elected unopposed in the Bihar Legislative Council. After this, Devesh Chandra Thakur has become the new chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council. In fact, on August 25, a special meeting is to be held in the Bihar Legislative Council. Earlier on Wednesday, Devesh Chandra Thakur had filed his nomination as the candidate of the Grand Alliance. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and former CM Rabri Devi were present on the occasion of the nomination.
On the other hand, no candidate filed nomination from the opposition side, after which the Grand Alliance candidate has been elected as the Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council. Devesh Chandra Thakur is JDU MLC. In the Grand Alliance, RJD has got the post of Speaker while JDU has got the post of Chairman of Legislative Council.
MLC for a long time
Devesh Chandra Thakur has been the Minister of Disaster Management in Nitish Kumar’s government. In the year 2002, he won the election as an independent candidate from Tirhut Graduation constituency. After this he joined JDU in 2004. In 2008, JDU made him a candidate from Tirhut graduate constituency and he managed to win the election and became a minister in the Nitish government.
Earlier the chairman was from BJP
The newly elected chairman Deveshchandra Thakur will take over from BJP’s Awadhesh Narayan Singh. He became the caretaker chairman in the NDA government. Awadhesh Narayan Singh has also had good relations with Nitish Kumar. But after the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government, Deveshchandra Thakur has been made the chairman.
