New Delhi: According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 339 on Saturday morning amid foggy conditions, indicating that the air quality in Delhi is ‘very poor’. ‘ category has been reached. An AQI between zero and 50 is ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and 500 ‘very poor’ considered ‘serious’.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) called Friday the “longest foggy day of the season” and predicted similar conditions for Saturday.
IMD said, “Today, Delhi had longest fog for this season. Cold day also due to absence of sunlight during the day and light wind speed reaching 8-12 kmph gusting to 8-12 kmph from north-west till afternoon. Stayed.”
A layer of dense fog and a layer of moderate fog during the day blocked the sunlight from reaching the surface in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan on Friday morning, an official of the Meteorological Department said. The official said that along with fog conditions, light northwesterly winds were blowing in the area, making the day cooler.
Meanwhile, cold wave conditions prevail over Delhi as the temperature dropped to 8 degree Celsius with wind speed reaching 5 kmph at around 7 am.
