Haridwar: On the occasion of Ganga Saptami, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Haridwar and participated in Ganga Pujan and Aarti here. During this his wife Geeta Dhami was also present. He prayed to Mother Ganga for the happiness and prosperity of the country and the state. Said that the doors of Badrinath Dham opened on Sunday. Prayed to Ganga Maiya to keep the Chardham Yatra going on uninterruptedly. At the same time, a large number of devotees have reached Haridwar on Ganga Saptami, which is considered to be the birthday of Mother Ganga. Devotees are taking a dip of faith since morning at the nearby Ganga Ghats including Har Ki Paidi. A special event has been arranged by Shri Ganga Sabha, the managing executive body of Har Ki Paidi.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also reached Harki Paidi for Ganga bath and worship. This is the first time two years after the Corona period, that on this great festival of Ganga Saptami, devotees are allowed to take a holy dip and perform religious rituals at all the Ganges Ghats including Harki Paidi Brahmakund.
On the occasion of Ganga Saptami, devotees from different provinces of the country celebrated the birth anniversary of Mother Ganga with pomp by taking a holy dip in the Ganges at the ghats of Rishikesh, Swargashram, Lakshman Jhula and worshiping Mother Ganga. During this, Shri Ganga Sabha at Triveni Ghat also performed Havan Pujan along with grand Ganga Aarti. Uttarakhand State Urban Development and Finance Minister Premchand Agarwal, Municipal Corporation Mayor Anita Mamgai, Chief Patron of Ganga Sabha Mahant Vatsal Prapannacharya, Ganga Sabha General Secretary Ramkripal Gautam, Rahul Sharma, during the birth anniversary of Mother Ganga at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh on Sunday. Dr. HR Mamgai, Dinesh Sati were also present. After the Ganga Aarti, a large number of devotees lit a lamp in the Ganges. During this, various organizations in the city distributed sweet soft water to the people by applying sweet soft water.
Peethadheeshwar Mahant Bhupadra Giri of Bhagwan Giri Ashram said that according to mythological scriptures, on the seventh day of the Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, Mother Ganga had reached Shivshankar’s hair from heaven. Hence this day is celebrated as Ganga Saptami. The day Ganga ji was born is known as Ganga Jayanti (Vaishakh Shukla Saptami) and the day Gangaji descended on earth is known as Ganga Dussehra (Jyestha Shukla Dashami). Maa Ganga is worshiped on this day.
On Ganga Saptami, devotees become a partner of virtue by worshiping and bathing in the Ganges with the rituals in Dharmanagari. At the same time, in the presence of Mahant Ravipuri Maharaj of ancient Hanuman temple, devotees worshiped and took a dip of faith in the Ganges. On the other hand, Mahant Ravipuri Maharaj flagged off the palanquin yatra being taken out by the Maa Ganga Janmotsav Sangh Moti Bazar from Hanuman Ghat for the past several years. Mahant Ravipuri Maharaj said that on the day of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha Saptami, Mother Ganga had reached the hair of Lord Shiva from heaven. Hence this day is celebrated as Ganga Saptami or Ganga Jayanti. Taking a dip in the Ganges on the occasion of Ganga Saptami washes away all the sins of a human being and attains salvation.
