Raipur: In Chhattisgarh, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) has taken into custody the suspended Additional Director General of Police GP Singh, accused in the disproportionate assets case.
EOW officials said on Tuesday that the EOW has taken Singh into custody in Gurgaon for questioning.
The EOW had registered a case against Singh, a 1994 batch Indian Police Service officer, on June 29 last year under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
After this, the EOW team searched about 15 places of him and his close friends between July 1 and July 3 and found assets worth Rs 10 crore.
Director of EOW in the state Arif Shaikh said that during the investigation of the case, Singh was issued several notices asking him to appear but he neither cooperated in the investigation nor appeared in the office.
Singh has not got relief from the Supreme Court also in this matter.
Sheikh said that on Tuesday, a team of EOW took Singh into custody from Gurgaon for questioning. Singh will be brought to Raipur and produced in a local court. Further action will be taken later.
Singh was suspended by the state government after the EOW’s action on the premises of GP Singh. Later a case of sedition was also registered against Singh by the police.
According to police officials, when the EOW raided Singh’s residence and the places of his close relatives, they found some incriminating documents there, on the basis of which a case of sedition was registered against Singh.
In the FIR, the police had said that the ACB, during its searches at Singh’s premises, had recovered critically sensitive information and documents containing provocative articles against the government and its policies.
“The documents contained secret analysis of various public representatives and candidates,” the FIR said. Documents making objectionable remarks on religious grounds have also been found. On investigation it was found that the writings were motivated to create communal and caste violence and to create hatred towards the government created by law.
According to the FIR, 48 pages of documents containing similar information were recovered from the homes of Singh and his associates.
