Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar makes many claims about prohibition. Prohibition of liquor has been made a campaign in the state. Liquor is easily available in Bihar even after many strictures. There are liquor mafia in every city, village and street, who are selling liquor easily. The arrest of liquor in Bihar is big news. The newspaper is full of such news. Nitish may have been thrashing about the prohibition law, but the truth is that it has fully flourished.
The latest case is of Nitish Kumar’s home district Nalanda. So far 11 people have died due to drinking spurious liquor here and the condition of many is said to be critical. According to the relatives, everyone had consumed adulterated liquor. It is discussed that the last rites of three dead were also performed. There is also talk of loss of eyesight of many people. However, no such case has been confirmed so far.
The incident is of Chhoti Pahadi locality of Sohsarai police station. On the other hand, all the police, DM-SP, all the three SDPOs, hundreds of jawans and dog squads of the district kept searching for liquor on Hiranya mountain of Bihar Sharif throughout the day. Liquor and some items have been seized. When many people died, the police department swung into action.
All the big officers including DM, SP, SDO, Bihar Sharif, DSP of Rajgir and Hilsa reached. Family members were interviewed. Later the raids started. 92 bottles of foreign liquor, tetrapack liquor packaging material, four liters of Chulaua liquor, 26 pouches of country liquor have been recovered from two places. On the other hand, the opposition party RJD has also called the prohibition of liquor in Bihar a failure. Party spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said that the manner in which there is a continuous death due to spurious liquor in Bihar. Taking responsibility for that, Nitish Kumar should resign from his post.
