A gang smuggling cows has been caught by the police in Mangalkot in Birbhum district of West Bengal. Police have arrested four people along with 53 cows.

West Bengal There is a ruckus in the CBI action regarding cow smuggling. Birbhum District Trinamool President Anubrata Mandal has been arrested by the CBI in the smuggling scam, but still the cow smuggling is not taking its name to stop. New ways of smuggling are emerging from different districts. Sometimes there have been cases of smuggling in milk carts and sometimes with the help of floating banana leaves. Amidst all this, the police of Mangalkot police station in Birbhum district seized a lorry laden with cows in Katwa. Around 53 cows were reportedly being taken to Birbhum. 4 people have been arrested in this whole incident.
The incident is from Mangalkot area of Katwa in East Burdwan. During the naka checking, the police stopped after seeing a lorry full of cows. The inquiry started. During interrogation, discrepancy was seen in the words of the four people. Also they could not show any valid document. Soon after, the accused were arrested.
Police caught lorry carrying 53 cows
According to police sources, the house of the arrested is in Kusumgaria village of Lavpur police station area of Birbhum. The police have confiscated the lorry along with a total of 53 cows. The arrested people have been taken to Katwa Court. The police is probing that after all where the cows were being taken? A local resident said, “The lorry was on its way to Birbhum. There were 53 cows inside the lorry. The police wanted to see the valid documents, but they could not show them. The police have brought the cows and kept them in the Kisan Mandi. I appreciate this initiative of the police.” Actually, a few days ago a calf was thrown into the river for smuggling from Muradpur in Murshidabad or Farjipara area of Jalangir. There was a case of shedding cows in the Padma river. A few days before that, cows were smuggled inside a milk van in Purulia. Not only Purulia or Murshidabad, news of such smuggling has come to the fore in this district.
CID detained Sanjay Malik for seven days
On the other hand Sanjay Malik, a close aide of Abdul Barik Biswas arrested by the CID in the cow smuggling case, was produced in Murshidabad District City Court today. In 2019, a case was registered against him at Jalangi police station as a conspirator of cow smuggling in the area. In that incident, Basirhat district police produced him in Murshidabad court today. After this the CGM was taken to the court. The CID had applied for his custody for the purpose of investigation in the cow smuggling case. Justice CGM Apna Choudhary ordered seven days’ CID custody.
