KJ Srivatsan, Jaipur: The Ashok Gehlot government of Rajasthan has decided to hand over the investigation of the ‘alleged’ rape case in Alwar to the CBI. ‘Alleged’ because Rajasthan Police issued statement The 15-year-old has denied any kind of sexual harassment.
The recommendation will be sent by the state government to the central government soon for a CBI inquiry into the matter. This decision was taken on Sunday in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot through VC at the Chief Minister’s residence.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Home Rajendra Singh Yadav, Chief Secretary Niranjan Arya, Additional Chief Secretary Home Abhay Kumar, Director General of Police ML Lather, Additional Director General of Police Crime Branch RP Mehra, Additional Director General of Police Security S Sengthir, Principal of SMS Medical College Dr Sudhir Bhandari and Superintendent of JK Lone Hospital Dr. Arvind Kumar Shukla and other senior officers were present.
Significantly, on the night of January 11, a minor girl was found bleeding from her genitals at a flyover in Alwar. According to the police, the technical evidence and medical report do not indicate the possibility of sexual assault. Senior police officials said that they checked several CCTVs at various places from the victim’s house to the starting point of the flyover, in which the girl looked fine.
ANI quoted Dr Ravi, DIG, Civil Rights as saying, “So far no evidence of the incident has been found. We checked several CCTVs at different places from her house to the starting point of the flyover, in which the girl looks fine.”
It is noteworthy that the National Commission for Minorities has also taken suo motu cognizance in this matter on January 11 and sought a report from the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan by January 24.
