New Delhi: Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Azam Khan, has been released from Sitapur jail. Abdullah Azam was lodged in Sitapur district jail for almost two years. At the time of his release from jail, his and Samajwadi Party supporters were present there in large numbers.
After his release, Abdullah said that his family was subjected to atrocities for a long time and it continues to this day. “Fake cases were registered against my father (Azam Khan) and the innocent sick man was sent to jail,” Abdullah said. Even today his bail is being blocked but I hope the court will give justice to my family.
Let us tell you that Abdullah Azam was lodged in Sitapur Jail since 26 February 2020. There are about 43 cases registered against Abdullah Azam. It is being told that in all 43 cases, Abdullah Azam’s release has been possible after getting bail from the court. However, his father and Samajwadi Party MP from Rampur Mohammad Azam Khan will have to remain in Sitapur jail for now as Azam Khan has not got bail in some cases yet.
It is worth mentioning that Abdullah Azam had contested from Swar assembly seat of Rampur on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 2017 and won and became an MLA, but Congress candidates Nawab Kazim Ali and Suna Ved Mian had filed a complaint regarding the age of Abdullah Azam. The Allahabad High Court later annulled the election of Abdullah Azam. This matter is still pending in the Supreme Court.
