World’s Oldest Chicken: Usually the life span of chickens is around 5 to 10 years, but today we are going to tell you about a hen whose current age is 20 years 304 days. Recently, Guinness World Records has awarded her the title of ‘world’s oldest hen’. The name of this hen from Michigan, America is Peanut, which belongs to the Bantam breed. These breeds of chickens are slightly smaller than other breeds in terms of size, but are similar in other respects. Image Source: www.guinnessworldrecords.com
Peanut’s oldest age has been confirmed by his vet, Dr. Julia Parker. He first met Peanut in 2003. Earlier, the title of oldest hen was recorded in the name of Muffi (1989-2012) of Red Quill Muffed American Game breed, who lived for 23 years and 152 days. Image Source: www.guinnessworldrecords.com
According to Guinness, Peanut was abandoned by his mother even before hatching. Later retired librarian Marcy Darwin brought him up. For two years, Peanut lived in a parrot cage in Marcy’s kitchen. Image Source: www.guinnessworldrecords.com
Marcy said that Peanut continued to lay eggs until the age of eight, which is a year or two longer than the average. She built many nests of eggs in her lifetime and many of her grandchildren lived and grew up in them. Image Source: www.guinnessworldrecords.com
According to Marcy, who raised Peanut, she is now too old to reproduce. But when she was young, her best friend was a rooster named Lance. For the last few years, a rooster named Benny is taking care of him. Image Source: www.guinnessworldrecords.com
