Cranberry Can Reduce UTI: Urinary tract infections can be very painful, causing various problems in the bladder. However, in present times UTI has become a common problem. According to researchers, about one-third of women may face the problem of UTI. If this problem is not treated on time, then UTI can go to the kidney, which can cause more problems.
But cranberry can prove beneficial in UTI. Cranberries are rich in nutrients and antioxidants. A new study has found that cranberry can reduce the risk of UTI in women and children.
What did the research find?
In the new study, the researchers included a total of 8,857 people. Along with this, about 50 trials were also reviewed. How was the risk of UTI associated with cranberry given as juice, tablet or powder, according to previous trials. According to Epidemiology Jacqueline Stephens of Flinders University, Australia, the studies we looked at to determine the benefits of cranberry products included several methods.
The researchers found that the risk of developing a UTI was reduced by more than a quarter in women with cases of infection. Even better were the results for children, in whom the risk of developing a UTI dropped by more than 50 percent.
not beneficial for all people
Eating cranberries has shown a significant reduction in the risk of UTI in many people, but it is not beneficial for all people. Researchers noted that cranberries did not appear to be of any benefit to older people, pregnant women, or people with bladder problems.
Some people also got side effects
The researchers found that only a small proportion of people in the study reported side effects, including stomach pain. However, there are gaps in the data as very few trials have directly compared cranberry products to antibiotics or probiotics.
