What is De Risking?
De Risking means reducing the risk. Especially financial institutions use this term. Those who are not sure about the customer or small company that it will be able to pay the liability. That’s why in the name of De Risking, they end the relationship with such customers-companies and small banks. Even if seen from the point of view of the US State Department, this term is used to end a business relationship with such a financial institution or customers that can cause risk. Often, the World Bank has also been using this word to end relations with such small banks or institutions.
Why this step was needed
Global trade conditions have changed since the Russia-Ukraine war. China wants to take advantage of the increasing tension between Russia and Western countries, recently the payment of Chinese yuan in trade with Russia was said to be part of its strategy. Strategic affairs experts say that China’s intention is to somehow break the US dollar. That is why China had increased the share of yuan in payments to Russia from 4 percent to 23 percent.
This was the reason that in February this year, for the first time in history, the yuan had overtaken the dollar as the traded currency. Although the yuan lags far behind the dollar in terms of global activity, other countries are also adopting it, with Brazil and Argentina also cooperating in this regard. Since then, America had raised the issue of De Risking, so that a message could be given to China, that if it continues to do its own thing, America can convert De Risking into De Coupling. In his statement, Biden had also indicated this and said that China is constantly ignoring global rules.
Why this is a message for China
If seen from China’s point of view, De Risk can mean reducing China’s dependence in the economic sector, so that there is no possibility of economic risk. This is like a message to China. However, it has also been said in the statement that the purpose of G-7 is not to harm China, nor do they want to stop China’s economic progress. It has been clarified in the statement that de-risking does not mean diversification, it means reducing risk and diversifying.

What is meant by decompiling?
De-risking means reducing the risk, while de-coupling means ending the relationship. However, this is not the first time that de coupling or de risking has been used. These words have been used many times in the recent past. According to a report in the Indian Express, recently on April 27, the National Security Advisor of America had also mentioned de-risking. Earlier on March 30, the President of the European Commission had also used the word Derisking regarding China.
India has also talked about De Risking
Before G7 countries and America, India has also talked about Derisking, although China’s name was not taken then. Recently, on May 16, at the Eu Trade and Technology Council (TTC), Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said that there is a need to keep the economy risk-free in the era of global instability.
China is attacking America
Of course, different meanings of De Risking may be derived, but China is an attacker on America in this regard, soon after the statement of the American National Security Advisor, China had said in an article published in the Global Times that America would definitely be De Risking instead of De Compiling. Talk about Risk, but have not seen enough sincerity of Washington in these efforts.
