The hunt for the robber has begun?
Frightened British started trying to pacify Aurangzeb’s anger. The British promised Aurangzeb that he would compensate for his loss and would hand over the person who had committed the robbery to you. After this the search for the culprit started. The British found out the name of that robber. His name was Henry Avery. Henry was a pirate. He had carried out many incidents of loot, but many of his names were registered in the records.
The first robbery made the captain of the ship
Born in Plymouth, England, Henry began his career as a sailor on a Royal Navy ship. Later he started working on Charles II, a merchant ship of Spain. While working here, Henry earned a name, but due to differences with the French government, there was a delay in payment to him and his companions, so all together rebelled and took possession of the ship. Henry declared himself the captain of the ship.
Henry changed the name of the ship to ‘Fancy’ and became a pirate. He wanted to do something that would create panic among the people of his name and become his name. In this way he planned to loot Aurangzeb’s ships.
The year was 1695. 6 decades had passed since Aurangzeb assumed power. Except some parts of the South, its flag was hoisting almost all over India. Aurangzeb’s royal mark ship used to travel from Surat to Mecca every year and many special people along with the Mughal family were involved in it. The name of that ship was Ganj-e-Sawai. This ship was a magnificent specimen of wooden workmanship.
80 guns were deployed on the ship. The cannon was placed. Seeing this, no one could muster the courage to attack the ship. This thing liked Henry and he planned to attack. He knew that this ship belonged to the Mughals, so immense wealth would be found here.
Looted by making such a strategy
In the year 1695 it was the month of August. Aurangzeb’s Ganj-e-Sawai was returning towards Surat. In which there were billions of wealth and people of the royal family. Henry, along with his companions, ambushed the ship. Since he already knew the route of the ship, he had already set a net near the island of Perim in the Red Sea.
The ship of the Mughals was equipped with cannons, so he first hit their ship directly and destroyed that part. By doing this the ship could not move forward and the ship was looted.
After this incident, the British sent many people to find the robber but Henry was never caught. It is said that he had collected such a huge amount through loot that he did not need to loot again.
