Election of new Chief Minister is going to be held in Karnataka, new government is going to be formed but before that DGP Praveen Sood has been appointed as the new director of CBI for two years. Praveen Sood will replace the current CBI Director Subodh Jaiswal. His term is going to end on May 25.
Praveen Sood’s name was decided after a meeting of the High Level Committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Singh and Leader of the Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. However, according to information, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has objected to the appointment of Praveen Sood.
Who is IPS Praveen Sood?
Praveen Sood is currently working as the DGP of Karnataka Police. Graduated from IIT Delhi. He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1986. After which he started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Mysore in 1989. He later served as Superintendent of Police, Bellary and Raichur before being posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bengaluru.
Praveen Sood also held the post of Police Commissioner of Mysore City from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure, he has run operations against terrorist networks of Pakistani origin. Later till 2011, he also worked as Additional Commissioner of Police in the Traffic Police of Bangalore.
Honors and Achievements
Praveen Sood was awarded the Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for Excellence in Service in 1996, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2002 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2011. Took over as Managing Director of Housing Corporation and played a key role in increasing the turnover.
Why is the figure of 36 with DK Shivakumar?
Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar had called DGP Praveen Sood ‘worthless’ in the past. And had spoken of taking action against him after his party came to power.
DK Shivkumar had accused Praveen Sood of favoring the BJP. He had said – During Sood’s regime, about 25 cases have been registered against Congress leaders while no case has been registered against BJP leaders.
