Stars are formed every year in the Milky Way or Galaxy. Scientists have known this thing for a long time, but shocking information has come to the fore in a new study. Researchers at Germany’s Würzburg University have told in a new study that the formation of stars in the Milky Way is happening rapidly. The rate of star formation is higher than previously estimated.
It is generally believed that the formation of stars is a stable process. But this study has rejected this belief. According to this study published in Astronomy and Astrophysics, more stars are being born every year than scientists have been thinking.
According to the American space agency NASA, stars are born from the gases present within the clouds of dust. These clouds are scattered in most of the galaxies. The Orion Nebula is the easiest example of this. When there is turbulence inside the clouds, knots are formed and this gas-dust together starts forming stars.
Star formation begins with a protostar, the hot core of a collapsing cloud. It becomes a star one day. According to the reports, till now it has been believed that every year in our galaxy, stars are formed at a pace equal to about two suns. These stars are very small compared to the Sun.
The new study says that stars with the mass of the Sun are evolving at least 4 to 8 times every year. Since their size is very small, accordingly 10 to 20 stars should be born in our galaxy every year. According to the researchers, this study is also tentative at the moment but it has rejected the previous studies. According to him, this information can be useful in future research studies.
