The case in which Lalu Prasad Yadav has been made an accused in exchange of job for land is a case of 2004 to 2009. Then Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Union Railway Minister. in this matter Lalu Prasad Yadav Apart from his wife Rabri Devi, his two daughters (Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav), charge sheets have been filed against 12 other people. According to the allegation of the CBI, large scale irregularities were committed in giving jobs in the railways when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister.
According to the charge sheet, Lalu Prasad Yadav gave jobs to 12 people in Group D without advertisement and in return got the applicants to write land in the names of their family members. The total area of the land has been said to be around 1,05,292 square feet. According to the allegation, the land donors were given jobs in different zones of the Railways. According to sources, during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister, the applicants were first given temporary jobs. During this, when the land deal was confirmed, then the job was made permanent. A proper network was prepared for the job land deal.
Who got the job?
The CBI has filed an FIR in the whole matter. According to that FIR, the names of those who got jobs in exchange of land in railways are Rajkumar, Mithilesh Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Sanjay Rai, Dharmendra Rai, Ravindra Rai, Abhishek Kumar, Dilchand Kumar, Premchand Kumar, Lalchand Kumar, Hridanand Chowdhary and Pintu Kumar. In the name of all these family members, the ownership rights of the land were transferred in the name of Lalu’s wife Rabri and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav and along with the amount in lakhs was also given. These twelve people are also accused of getting government jobs by wrong means.
When did the matter come to light?
In October 2022, the CBI filed a charge sheet against former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and 14 people for giving jobs in lieu of land during his tenure in the Railways. The CBI had also conducted raids in this case. After which permission was sought from the Central Government to prosecute the accused. The CBI had registered a preliminary inquiry on September 23, 2021 regarding the land-for-job scam in the Railways, which was converted into an FIR on May 18, 2022.
What will happen to Lalu now?
Lalu Prasad Yadav is currently out on bail. A long case of fodder scam is going on against him. He has gone to jail several times in the fodder scam. Lalu Prasad Yadav’s health is also not good. Recently his kidney has been transplanted. Now after getting permission from the government to investigate the CBI, the difficulty of the accused family members including Lalu may also increase.
