This year the G-7 summit is being organized in Japan.
Japan to be held in Hiroshima G-7 Summit Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend. This is the first time that PM Modi is going to participate in the G-7 summit. In this conference to be held from 19 to 21 May PM Modi Will keep his point on many issues including fertilizer, food. In such a situation, the question is what is G7, which countries of the world are a part of it and why India has been invited.
G-7 is a group of countries with developed economies. This includes 7 countries Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and America. This is the reason why it is also known as Group of Seven.
Why was the G-7 group formed?
In the initial phase only 6 countries were included in this group. The foundation of this group was laid to deal with inflation and economic crisis worldwide. However, the time to build it came after the 1973 oil crisis. It was started to deal with such crisis in future.
The first meeting to form this group was held in 1975. Exactly one year later, Canada joined it and thus this group was called G-7.However, later such issues started to be included in it, which is affecting most of the countries. These countries gather to discuss these issues. Each member country involved in the G-7 presides over it in turn and organizes the conference.
According to media reports, many important issues will be discussed this year. This includes issues such as the affairs of China and Russia, artificial intelligence, climate change and the threat of nuclear weapons.
Why G8 to G7?
After Canada joined this group in 1976, there were 7 countries in this group and it was called G7. But in 1998, Russia also joined this group. Then it was named G-8, but after invading and occupying Crimea, Russia’s membership was abolished and it returned from G8 to G7.
According to a Time magazine report, since 1996, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization are also being invited to the G7 group meetings so that issues can be discussed and resolved.
Why was India invited when it was not G7?
India is not included in G7 countries, yet why India has been invited, now let’s understand this too. Actually, whichever country hosts this event can invite its partner country. This is the reason why many leaders including PM Modi, Lula da-Silva of Brazil have been called as observers. These leaders will speak on many important issues of the world.
