Tiger has been a famous robber of Stuartpuram in Andhra Pradesh. There are many serious cases registered against him. Tiger grew up in Stuartpuram, which is known as the village of thieves. It also has its own history.
This is how the village of thieves became
Between 1911 and 1914, a plan was made to keep together thieves and dacoits who committed different types of crimes in different areas. The place was named Stuartpuram. This village was established in 1913 after the name of Harold Stuart, a member of the then Madras Presidency. The aim of the government was that by keeping thieves and dacoits in one place, they could be monitored.
Nageswara Rao started committing petty thefts from the 1970s. Gradually, the fear of the police started disappearing in him. As a result, in the next 15 years, he carried out many big robberies fearlessly. Despite committing major dacoities in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, he managed to elude the police. that was the reasonThe people of the crime world started calling him Tiger.
Whatever he used to loot, he used to distribute it among the poor. Nageshwar’s brother Prabhakar Rao told in a BBC report, we both lived in Stuartpuram’s house. He used to distribute looted goods and money among the poor, so people used to support him strongly.
As a result, his identity became famous among the robbers. Many times he came face to face with the police but he survived, but on March 24, 1980, he finally died in a police encounter. After the death, there was resentment and anger among the people for the police.
Bank robbery in front of police station
Prabhakar says that in 1974, there was a robbery in a bank built in front of the police station in Banaganapalli of Nandyal district. This news made headlines all over the country. The discussion was also because during that period there was a robbery of 35 lakh rupees in the bank. The midnight incident created panic in the country.
Prabhakar says, there were 10 members in our gang. Due to the location of the bank being in front of the police station, we had taken a lot of care. They committed the robbery by breaking the back door of the bank and took the money to the crematorium. We had 14 kg gold and Rs 50,000 in cash. Even before it was divided, the police had surrounded the village. Nageshwar Rao escaped from this police action, but I surrendered.
Efforts were made to bring Nageshwar into the mainstream, but he again returned to the world of crime and died in police firing.
Escaped after attacking jail officials
Prabhakar says, we were both arrested in Tamil Nadu in 1976, but kept in different jails. During one of the hearings, he told me that he could not stay in jail any longer. After some time he attacked the jail officials and escaped. While informing me about this, the police officers told me that your brother is really a tiger.

How much will Stuartpuram be seen in films?
Many films have been made on Stuartpuram, which is called the village of thieves. Now the Telugu film ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’ is being made. Vamsi Krishna is directing the film. Shooting continues. Prabhakar says that the film’s unit had sought information from me, but I don’t want history to be misrepresented.
He says, now good people live in the village. Pursuing higher education. Many people of the village have now started living outside. People are forgetting the old image of Stuartpuram.
Many people of the village do not want a film to be made on it. He says that such a film will bring bad name to the village. This will affect them and the previous generations. However, it is difficult to say anything on what will be shown in the film.
