The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made the linking of PAN and Aadhaar mandatory. The deadline for taxpayers to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar has been fixed as March 31, 2023.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made the linking of PAN and Aadhaar mandatory. The deadline for taxpayers to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar has been fixed as March 31, 2023. Failing to do so, the PAN will become inoperative, which means you will not be able to use many bank related services or do NSE or BSE transactions.
Taxpayers who have not yet linked their Aadhaar with PAN can do so by paying a fee of Rs 1000. The deadline to link without penalty was 30 June 2022. If you have not yet linked your PAN and Aadhaar card, do it soon.
If you have linked your PAN and Aadhaar, or you are not sure about it, then you can also check its status sitting at home. There are two ways to do this.

The first way to check this is through the Income Tax e-filing portal.
step 1: First of all, go to the e-filing portal of Income Tax. For this you have to click on this link: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/,
Step 2: Apart from this, enter your 10 digit PAN number and 12 digit Aadhaar number. Then, click on View link Aadhaar Status.
Step 3: Then, enter your 10 digit PAN number and 12 digit Aadhaar number. After that click on View Link Aadhaar Status. If your Aadhaar is already linked, then the Aadhaar number will appear. If Aadhaar is not linked, then you will have to complete the necessary steps to link both.
SMS is another way to check your PAN-Aadhaar status. To check the status of PAN-Aadhaar linking through SMS, send SMS to 567678 or 56161.
To check your status, message in this format – Leave space after UIDPAN. Then you have to type your 12 digit Aadhaar number. After this type PAN number and then send SMS to 567678 or 56161.
The SMS format will be: UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar Number> <10 digit Permanent Account Number>.
