What is it in the word ‘nadu’ that caused the ruckus
If we understand this whole controversy, then one thing is clear that the whole ruckus has been created regarding the word ‘Nadu’. The name of the state is Tamil Nadu, but the governor said to keep Tamizhgam for it. The word ‘Nadu’ means land. According to the Indian Express report, due to misinterpretation of Tamil history and complexities of translation, the word Nadu has come to mean country or nation-state. In this way, the state is seen here as Tamil nationalism. When the governor talked about a change in it, the political parties were annoyed.
It is not that for the first time in the House the Governor has given a statement regarding the name of Tamil Nadu. He had also expressed his views in the program held at Raj Bhavan on 4th January.
He had said that a different kind of thinking has developed regarding Tamil Nadu. Whenever something is applicable in the whole country, Tamil Nadu’s answer is ‘no’. It has become like a habit. A lot has been written on this which is wrong and bad. This thinking should be changed. Truth must triumph. Tamizhgam is a more appropriate word to say it.
