During the construction of the new Parliament House, he had ordered to research all the facts and history related to it. He came to know about Sengol from a letter. This letter was written by well-known dancer Padma Subrahmanyam to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister’s Office came to know about Sengol about 2 years back. Famous dancer Padma Padma Subrahmanyam had mentioned this in a letter written to PMO. According to a report in The Hindu, Padma Subrahmanyam had given information about the importance of Sengol in this letter. For this, he cited an article published in a Tamil magazine. It was mentioned in this article that on the night of August 14, 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru accepted Sengol as the transfer of power.

Who is Padma Subramaniam
Padma Subrahmanyam is a famous dancer of Bharatnatyam, she was born in 1943. Father was a famous film producer and mother a musician. Padma Subrahmanyam started teaching dance to children at the age of 14 in her father’s dance school. She has received many awards and prizes so far, she has won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1983, besides she has also received Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards in 1981 and 2003 respectively. Apart from this, the Nehru Award was received from the Soviet Union and the Asian Culture Award of Japan’s Fukuoka for development and harmony in Asia.

PMO took the letter very seriously, PM Modi was informed about it. In particular, PM Modi ordered to find Sengol. The team of officers started its search with the help of Indira Gandhi National Center for Art, but nothing could be found. After this, newspapers from that time were found in the National Archives. It came to know that Sengol was built by the Vummidi Bangaru Family of Tamil Nadu.
When the team of officers spoke to the Bangaru family, they told that Sengol was built by them, but they do not know where it is now. After this, orders were given to find out about it in other museums across the country as well. Very few people had the knowledge of how Sengol looks like.
Sengol found in Anand Bhawan, Allahabad
Finally a stick like Sengol was found in Anand Bhawan, Allahabad. No one knew that this was Sengol. There was no photo of this even in the newspapers. Eventually this Sengol painting was taken to the same Bangaru family in Tamil Nadu who recognized the artwork. He also had its photo. Actually in 1947, Wummidi Athurajulu and Wummidi Sudhakar made it together with other craftsmen. Now both these brothers will also be a part of the program to be held on 28th May.
