ICICI Bank Loan Fraud Case: CBI Special Court on Tuesday Chanda Kochhar, former MD and CEO of ICICI Bankher husband Deepak and Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot (Venugopal Dhoot) Gave permission to keep home food, medicines and other items including chair, bed and mattress in the custody of CBI. All three were sent to CBI custody for three days on Monday. Kochhars to CBI in Videocon loan case (Videocon Loan Case) I was arrested on Friday, while Dhoot was arrested on Monday. All three were produced in the court on Monday and the CBI sought their custody for three days saying that all three could be interrogated together.
Bed and bedding to the Kochhars in the CBI lockup
Kochhar’s lawyer Kushal Mor told the court that the couple, both 61 years old, are senior citizens and were made to sleep on the floor of the Mumbai Police lockup at night. He told the court that it was very cold and it would affect his health. The lawyer said that the CBI has its own lock-up, so instead of sending them to the police lock-up at night, they should be kept in the same. The court had directed the lawyers of the accused to file a petition in this regard. On Tuesday, the court heard the petitions, which also requested home food and medicines prescribed by the doctors of the accused. A petition was also filed by the accused for a special bed, chair, pillow, mattress, towel, blanket and sheet, which was allowed.
Dhoot got permission to hire an attendant
The court also allowed Chanda Kochhar to meet her family members and lawyers to take instructions. The court also allowed Deepak Kochhar to take the assistance of his lawyer alone for an hour till the questioning is over. On Dhoot’s plea, the court also allowed him to be accompanied by an attendant to help him take insulin if required in custody. All three will be produced in the court again on Wednesday i.e. today.
The loan was disbursed in violation of the rules
The CBI has alleged that ICICI Bank had approved a loan of Rs 3,250 crore to Dhoot’s Videocon Group of companies in violation of banking rules. Meanwhile, Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar on Tuesday approached the Bombay High Court, calling their arrest by the CBI illegal. The High Court, however, refused to grant an urgent hearing and directed Kochhar to mention the matter before a regular bench on resuming after leave.
